At the Winery

Fleeing post-war Czechoslovakia, 19 year old Josef Chromy immigrated to Australia. After 40 years in the meat industry, he established Tamar Ridge in 1994. Since 2010 the winery has been owned by Brown Brothers.
First and foremost, Tamar Ridge are Pinot Noir makers. The original Kayena Vineyard sits along the western banks of northern Tasmania's Tamar River. The Pinot Noir grape is notoriously difficult to grow, yet over half the vineyard is dedicated to it. The rich, fertile soils coupled with the Tamar Valley's cool climate produce Pinot Noir with pristine varietal definition. The conditions are also well suited to Riesling, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc.
At Tamar Ridge the Single Block and Reserve Pinot Noirs lead the way. With Brown Brothers investment, the winery has grown to account for nearly 20 per cent of Tasmanian grape production.
